Your local salon is fully booked, the Jimmy Choo open-toe

sandals are a must for that party tonight. Or perhaps

you’ve just looked down and your chipped toenails and

rough calloused feet could feature in an Alien movie.

What to do?

First step – always keep the following tools and products in a beautiful box ready for emergencies. Olive oil, coarse brown sugar, coarse sea salt, moisturizer, professional buffer block, nail clippers or scissors, pedicure sticks (referred to as Orange sticks) and a really good nail/foot file. Also, a top quality nail varnish remover, basecoat, topcoat and a favourite colour nail varnish.

Then pour yourself a glass of wine, put on your favourite sounds and proceed as follows…

1. Remove polish from toenails

2. Fill your bath or a big plastic bowl with warm water

3. In a separate bowl mix a handful of coarse sea salt, a handful of coarse brown sugar and add olive oil. Just enough to make it nice & smooth.

4. With the mixture, scrub those feet well. Leave half aside for a leg scrub afterwards, and soak for around 10 minutes.

5. Use the rest of the mixture and scrub up and down your legs and feet once again.

6. Rinse your feet and legs with cool water and towel dry.

7. Use the foot file and rub those heels and balls of the feet, but not too hard. If you have corns or callouses always go to a professional.

8. Trim your toenails with nail scissors or clippers. If they are long, cut them straight across to help prevent ingrowth.

9. Gently push back your cuticles with the orange sticks, (leave cutting to the professionals).

10. Use the buffer on the nails to smooth and shine.

11. Give your feet and legs a gorgeous massage with the moisturizer, I often use a thick hand cream. This will get the circulation going.

12. Wipe off any excess cream on the nail bed and then apply your basecoat allowing it to dry thoroughly.

13. Apply the colour slowly and evenly, allow to dry, then apply a second coat.

14. When dry, apply the topcoat, which prevents chipping.

15. Tidy any stray colour by taking your orange stick, twirling some cotton wool around it, dipping it in varnish remover and dabbing gently.

16. Allow to dry for an hour, particularly important with strong colours. Just while away the time dancing barefoot around the room.

17. Use a cuticle oil weekly to keep those feet moisturized.
